Sept. 13, 2018 | Dallas, TX  (NBCDFW.com)  Thursday marks an important day in the rich culinary history of Texas, the 100th birthday of the nation's oldest Tex-Mex restaurant chain - El Fenix. Dallas City Council voted to rename a portion of Alamo Street near the restaurant. It will now be called Miguel Martinez Way in honor of the man who started it all.

January 4, 2018 | Dallas, TX-based FIREBIRD RESTAURANT GROUP (founded 1918) has increased by 2 units for the Snuffers Restaurant and Bar concept, from 10 to 12 (20% concept growth), 2 units for Mesomaya, from 3 to 5 (67% concept growth) and added a new concept called Tortaco (2 units). Other company concepts are called El Fenix (22), Taqueria La Ventana (4) and Village Burger Bar (4). The restaurants are family/casual, with an $8-$20+ per person check average. Meal periods are lunch and dinner, serving Mexican and American cuisines. Catering, banquet and online ordering options are available. Trading areas are OK and TX. We last featured this concept on 9/13/16 (25% growth).

July 12, 2017 |  Firebird Restaurant Group, the company that owns well-known Dallas brand Snuffer's Restaurant and Bar, has acquired Village Burger Bar. I know what you are thinking: Will CEO Mike Karns and his team turn all the existing Village Burger Bars into Snuffer's? No, says a spokesperson. Karns confirms that the menu will remain the same, too.

July 12, 2017 |  The company behind iconic North Texas chain El Fenix Mexican Restaurant has acquired a sixth concept. Firebird Restaurant Group announced Wednesday its purchase of Village Burger Bar, a restaurant founded in Dallas in 2005. In the past 12 years, its owners, husband and wife Mike and Susan Matta, have grown Village into four locations in Allen, North Dallas, the Shops at Legacy and West Village.
